What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a system of clear aligners that can straighten misaligned teeth and correct malocclusions (bad bites). While Invisalign straightens teeth in the same way as braces — by placing gradual force on the teeth to shift them into position — the process is gentler and more discreet.

Clear aligners are transparent, removable, and mold to the unique shape and size of your teeth. As a result, they appear clear to others. You can laugh, smile, and talk to others without revealing your orthodontic treatment. These features make Invisalign ideal for teens and adults who want straighter teeth without the hassle of braces.

What are the benefits of Invisalign?

Invisalign offers many benefits over braces. If you’re hesitant about getting braces, rest assured that Invisalign clear aligners are:

Clear

Ultra-thin, durable BPA-free plastic gives Invisalign a translucent appearance that blends in with the natural shade of your teeth.

Removable

Clear aligners are removable, so you can take them out to eat and drink. You can also remove Invisalign for special events as long as you follow your treatment plan.

Comfortable

While the metal brackets and wires of braces can irritate the inside of your cheeks, Invisalign uses smooth materials for enhanced comfort.

Hygienic

Since Invisalign is removable, you can brush and floss without the barrier of braces. Maintaining good oral hygiene reduces your risk of cavities and gum disease.

What can I expect from Invisalign?

If Invisalign is right for you, the Bay Dental team takes digital impressions with the iTero® intraoral scanner to create your custom molds. The team uploads the impressions to Invisalign’s proprietary software and then sends your plan to the company’s lab.

Once your clear aligners are ready, the team gives you detailed instructions on your expected treatment. Typically, you receive a new set of aligners every two weeks. Each set targets specific teeth to help you reach your treatment goals. It’s important that you wear Invisalign for at least 22 hours a day to stay on track with your treatment.

Cleaning your teeth and rinsing your aligners after every meal are essential to protect Invisalign and prevent bacteria buildup.
